Der Physik-Nobelpreisträger Albert Abraham Michelson war sein Leben lang ein Gegner der Relativitätstheorie – von ihm stammt die Aussage „Ehe ich das Zeug glaube, glaube ich lieber, dass ich falsch beobachtet habe!“ – und teilte schon 1919 öffentlich seine Ablehnung mit (siehe in der Dokumentation der Forschungsgruppe G.O. Mueller):

T. J. J. See macht keine Angaben darüber, in welcher Zeitung oder Zeitschrift das Interview erschienen ist. T. J. J. See referiert die zentralen Aussagen Michelsons in dem Interview (Sp. 50): „ In an interview at Chicago, Dec. 19, 1919, Professor A. A. Michelson, the eminent authority on light, openly rejects Einstein’s theory, because it does away with the idea of light traveling by means of vibrations in the aether which is supposed to fill all space. „Einstein thinks there is no such thing as aether“ remarked Michelson. „He does not attempt to account for the transmission of light, but holds that the aether should be thrown overboard“.“
